George Clarke becomes trustee of charity the Foundation of Light.

The charity, part of Sunderland Football Club, helps build a better future for children across the North East.  It supports more than 42,000 young people and their families every year via a wide range of education, sports, health and community programmes.

George, who was born and raised in Sunderland, had been working with the foundation as an ambassador since attending the charity’s 10th Birthday Carols of Light celebration event at Durham Cathedral in December 2011.

He said: “Being from the North East I am keen to be involved in the regeneration of the region in any way I can. The Foundation of Light is doing some fantastic work across Sunderland, South Tyneside and County Durham and it’s a real privilege to be able to accept this official role with them.”

The Beacon of Light will be a vibrant and exciting education and sports facility and the first of its kind in the UK, as a permanent base for the Sunderland AFC backed Foundation of Light, which last week gained school status.

The foundation will become the Sunderland Centre of Opportunity, based at the multi-million pound building which will open in 2017.

Faulkner Browns is now aiming to create a building that will both inspire and motivate.
